Overview:
Ledgent is partnering with a mission-driven nonprofit organization in Downtown Sacramento to identify a skilled and detail-oriented Grant Accountant. This temp-to-hire opportunity is ideal for professionals who are passionate about supporting community-focused initiatives through accurate financial stewardship and grant compliance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain detailed financial records for grants and restricted funding sources, ensuring compliance with donor and regulatory requirements.
  • Prepare and post journal entries related to grant activity, including revenue recognition, expense allocations, and adjustments.
  • Monitor grant budgets and expenditures, ensuring costs are allowable, properly coded, and within approved limits.
  • Reconcile grant-related accounts and prepare periodic financial reports for internal departments and external funding agencies.
  • Collaborate with program and development teams to track grant milestones, reporting deadlines, and spending progress.
  • Assist with the preparation of financial documentation for grant proposals, renewals, and closeouts.
  • Support month-end and year-end close processes with a focus on grant and fund accounting.
  • Respond to inquiries from program staff regarding grant budgets and financial guidelines.
  • Assist with audits and compliance reviews by compiling necessary documentation and supporting schedules.
  • Research and apply appropriate accounting treatment for complex or multi-source grant transactions.
  • Recommend improvements to grant tracking systems and reporting workflows.
  • Participate in special projects and other finance-related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience, preferably in a nonprofit or grant-funded environment.
  • Strong understanding of fund accounting and grant compliance regulations (e.g., OMB Uniform Guidance).
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Excel and general accounting software.
  • Comfortable working independently and collaboratively in a mission-focused setting.
